Pistachios Trees
The pistachio tree is found growing in
areas with a hot dry climate, such as Lebanon, Syria, Iran,
India, Southern Europe, the desert countries of Asia and
Africa, and California.
Actually the pistachio tree is native
to western Asia and Asia Minor, and was introduced into
Mediterranean Europe at approximately the beginning of the
Christian era.
The pistachio tree in Iran have been
planted commercially for hundreds of years, but had a recognition
of the nuts value as an agriculture crop for export.
The rate of new plantings keeping pace
with the rapid increase in the world consumption, in the
last 80 years.
The principal producing area in Iran
is Kerman, which is located in the arid southeast. Extensive
plantings are located in the vicinity of Rafsanjan, Sirjan,
and Zarand.
